We have reviewed the calendar and revised our date to avoid a clash with the Schwinn100 and Saunders MM.
Thanks very much
Here we go again. After last year's debacle I'll hold off booking my summer hols until the summer Polaris date has been batted back & forth and has FINALLY been settled. Will someone please e-mail me when the date IS final?
THIS DATE IS FINAL.
Apologies Graham. My frustration was aimed at the spoilers who mess things up for us Polarists.
Regarding the discussions over the dwindling number of entries to Polaris, I thought I would make a couple of simple observations.
HI Rob
Utilise Bikemagic and Singletrack websites. The Salisbury Plain challenge has a downloadable entry form available through singletrackworld.com
So can we look forward to the Halfords/Polaris Challenge? The mind boggles!
Can't see any point in halfords. It's the wrong market.
BTW - The Summer 2002 event is still on the front page as 6/7 July!
I know
"Can't see any point in halfords. It's the wrong market."
Our dates were published 6 months ago after consultation with other organisors but Schwinn did not honour our dates.
The new dates are 20/21 July 2002 but there is a Salomon event and a Questar event on that weekend too.
Is there an interest in the return of a 100k linear ride around nominated checkpoints, this would not be a timed event just am opportunity of following a good off road route around the Peak District. The first time we did this we were over subscribed but the second time only a few tries it.
We are also considering reintroducing the family 2 hour event, any thoughts.

I'm going to get a lot more people doing my National Trailquest as a result of this.

Mick
It is not our fault, we publish our dates a full year in advance and in consultation with ACE Races to avoid confilcts but there are organisers out there who ignore traditional calendars.
We do not make these decisions lightly and try to let everyone know well in advance. 7 months notice is not too bad though

I can now book my holidays with complete peace of mind!

1) Advertising? old fashioned I know, but heck people need to know about the event to be able to enter.
2) Entry Forms. Perhaps if we could actually download a form from the website for the Spring event more entries might be received?
Can I just add that I absolutely Love the Polaris event. It's a fantastic event. Although my partner and I regularly finish towards the back of the pack, we always have a great time. Is there a special award for the most Polari it has taken for anyone to achieve 5000 points? I reckon I will finally get there in 17 events (only 3 more to go!)
Incidentally, we always do better when the weather is bad - perhaps you could arrange for torrential rain for the Spring event!
A Merry Christmas to you all and see you in Wales.

Thanks for your comments.
Entry forms for the spring event are at the printers and will be available on the web soon.
Press release issued to media and on bike web sites, advertising in magazines is expensive and which one do we use? Polaris competitors come from many different backgrounds/interests and are not your average MBUK types.
We will be trying out POS adverts in Halfords and hopefully some new sponsors will be promoting the event.

Why not have the whole Polaris info sheet available on the web?

I agree that Halfords may not be the savvy bike riders favourite shop, but sometimes they're useful. I noticed the printed form at the checkout in one when I was getting a new brake light bulb for my car (Halfords is still mainly a car parts shop after all), and I'm sure most of us have cars to get our bikes to the trails.
