Just spotted the new tent to be launched by Polaris, 675gms that's phenomenal.

What are the internal dimensions?, as I can't make out what they are from the diagram on the home page. It also appears to be double skinned, is that right?

I can see you getting inundated with e-mails from all the solo cat riders very shortly.

Roger / Graham, I imagine you are enabling this tent for use in the event, whether for 1 or 2 people is not yet clear, but if this tent is allowable then surely double and single hooped bivvy bags will be allowable for solo's in the Polaris Challenge. Yes?

Of course not, the aim is to make you all shell out for some polaris kit. It's not an oversized bivvy bag, it's a tent - cos it says so!

Next up, a lightweight stove that boils a regulation-size portion of water exactly in regulation time. And rules to eliminate any reasonable lightweight alternative.

Then there will be pack-and-forget waterproof trousers made of the thinnest plastic film money can buy.

Remember, it's all to keep you safe...

PS internal dimensions are 210cm long, 140 across at widest point, but only 20cm high at the foot end (you can find the jpg and view it full size). So it's definitely a 2 person bivvy bag, er, tent.

A tent needs poles and can be single or double it depends on how cosy pairs want to be.
Of course we want to sell more Polaris kit that is what keeps us in business.
Rules have changed re water boiling, it is not a requirement now.
Disposable waterproofs like gloves on the forecourt of garages now there is an idea

I'm very excited about the tent - honest -
it looks like just what I want - a double
bivvy-bag masquerading as a tent.

If the rules allow it (and you are hardly
going to outlaw it!) then that's ok by me!

So a 'bivvy' bag that has twin hooped poles and a small sheltered porch actually meets the requirements (even for 2 people) of the event better than Polaris' own new 'tent', as this only has one pole. Interesting eh? I don't even own a bivvy bag and you're own tent looks great. Good price.

Re: Cheque. the old parking ticket slip up didn't work then. It'll be in the post v.soon then.

Craving an event. (probably won't be saying that after I've done the High Peak Marathon this weekend!)

I haven't Jon, just borrowing one. Definitely interested in the tent - bit smaller than a Sup-Air by the looks of it, so a bit warmer for us solos?

Not sure about small if ChrisJ and Roger can fit in then we could use it in place of the summer marquee

The New Tent

Sorry for not replying to all your emails but this is a new tent that just went into production about 4 weeks ago. The tents have now gone through QC (Sherry for those who remember it!) and are now all passed - however we are awaiting the arival of the carbon poles which should be with us on Wednesday (13/03/02).

We will be taking orders for the tent on Thursday Morning on a 1st come 1st serve basis. we only have 20 available from this first run (there will be more a couple of weeks after the event) If you want one call (UK) 01246 240218 with your credit card number.

The first batch are now available (but in limited numbers). We are taking
orders for these on Wednesday morning onwards (13/03/02). As there are a
limited number available from this first batch if you do not urgently
require one please feel free to make an order but mention that it is not
urgent and we will supply yours from the second batch - which will be going
into production early next week.

Specifications of the Shelter;
It is a self supporting structure that uses either GRP or carbon composite
poles. The poles are each 2mm thick and up to 4 poles can be used - the
more poles the more stable the structure is. Each of the carbon poles weigh
18 grams and the GRP 40 grams (+/- 5%)
The fabric for the main part of the tent is Pertex Endurance with a light
but breathable coating of polyurethane. The ground-sheet uses a slightly
heavier rip-stop nylon with non-breathable coating. All the seams are tape
sealed to prevent leakage.

The whole tent weights in at <700 grams. including 2 poles, 6 carbon pegs,
tent, bag.

The tent used a stable "wedge" shape, this gives good sitting height which
can be useful. The ground sheet can be detached at one end so if you are
cooking it gives a greater safety area to prevent splashes onto the ground
sheet.

As this uses a single-skin construction, some condensation is inevitable so
on each side where the ground sheet is attached to the main canopy there are
a series of vents where both moisture and condensation can escape.


The price of the E-L S is �130 and you can order yours over the phone with a

When is the second batch of tents going to be ready for despatch?

I placed an order with you over the 'phone shortly before the spring event, but nothing has arrived as yet.

Also, as I had a family emergency and had to withdraw my entry, I asked if I could have a copy of the event map (paid for obviously) but no sign of that either.

I did ring you a short while ago, and you thought the tent would avaiable 'shortly'

Jerry - Lump hammers are an unreliable navigational aid. However, it could explain the location of some of the checkpoints at the last event (ho ho)

I'm also hoping to hear something about the tent I orginally ordered ..um...way back in March I think. I did try sending an email recently but didn't get a reply.

Maybe, but now it's 3 weeks...still no sign. And this is the second tent that's been sent to me, too! I'd better check to see if the postie is a keen camper.
