It seems like a long way off but I need your feedback to plan next summer's event.
1 Area, do you want a change from the North york moors National Park, the plan is to go to the western side of the moors next time maybe based around Osmotherley. Suggestions for other areas and volunteers to organise please
2 Do you still want a band, if so what type do you know a good one or should we bring back the jugglers
3 Food, are you sick of bacon butties and Wilf's cafe, fancy something different? Let us know
4 Did you like this summers slightly changed format with a smaller area and the opportunity to visit more checkpoints or do you want big days out
5 I 98 we ran the first 100k which was oversubscribed within weeks of the entry forms going out, this year only 54 people entered, do you still want one next year or is it too far or do you want way marking? comments again please.
6 What other changes can you suggest that will improve the event
Date for next year would be 1st/2nd July does this clash with any thing apart from my wedding anniversary

1 I think west NYM's would be great - but then I've only managed to make the last Summer event, so don't have any NYM's "fatigue". From what I can remember of it Osmotherley area is great anyway!

2 I didn't enjoy the band at all!!! Try something else, please - jugglers sounds interesting, any trials riding experts around to entertain us??

3 I found Wilf's + the other one (bacon butties etc) a fine combo - but as I say I've only made one summer event and I'm always so hungry after Spring/Autumn events I'd eat almost anything! But don't take that as a cue to let your standards slip!

4 I approached/will continue to approach the summer events a bit (more)relaxed v. the Autumn & Sping events. Thus a smaller area with the opportunity to visit lots of checks is just fine - if I represent the approach of the majority then go this way - Messrs Sheldon & Leheup clearly wouldn't associate with "relaxed" but then again don't represent the average rider!!

July 1 & 2 doesn't ring any bells with me - but then someone will probably tell you there's a lunar eclipse due over the NYMs right then!!!

Cheers

1 West NYM would be good, Osmotherly can be v congested for traffic flow?
2 We always B&B so no band comment
3 Food is fine for B&Bers
4 This years format good, the skill is not just in covering big miles but in the logistics/planning to cover as many controls as poss
We'll put July 1&2 in our diary and await news

By Mark Savage on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 - 01:40 pm:

1.Location good so far
2.Band keep it cheesey
3.Food just the job
4.Give a mix of checkpoints
5.100k not fit enough!
6.The photo at the end of the weekend is my trophy, it was missing last year.

By Nigel on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 - 02:02 pm:

1. Location OK - ENYM OK as well!
2. Band - cheesey as very mature stilton is the best
3. Food - more fat required!
4. A mix good, smaller distance and more points to get better - more logistical the better
5. 100k not far enough!
6. Good idea - bring the photo's back

By Andrea on Friday, February 25, 2000 - 08:55 am:

1. Location good - but being a "Soft Southerner" E or WNYM makes no difference
2. Band - cheesiness adds to relaxed/fun atmosphere
3. Bacon butties are the way forwards so no complaints there
4. Like the smaller distance and more points - makes me feel I have done better!
5. 100k - with Mark on that one
6. Photo would be good

Also, please keep the solos (comments somewhere else on the site) as I am also a sad person!!!

Really enjoyed last summer and looking forward to this one.

1. Last years summer event was our first, subsequent visit to NYM confirmed that after two weekends, the area had nothing left to offer. Why return the following year when there are plenty of other areas oferring a greater variety of riding, Hebden Bridge & the south pennines for example.
2. Bands are cool, after 7 hours of riding the last thing you want to see is a bloody bike display. Keep it rocking!!
3. Food was ok, it is esential to have vegie/ vegan stuff.
4. Big is better; more variety.
5. Not bothered, with the emergence of the 'Schwinn 100' better to keep to the original format.
6. Date seems fine, as does the format.

Given that the Summer event has a much more family/less serious theme, the NYM is hard to beat. Yes, there is excellent riding around Hebden Bridge and such areas (a regular area for myself) but many parts will be busy with walkers in the summer and I don't think it offers the same mixture of terrain. Good location for a Spring or Autumn event though. On the other hand, there must be areas in Wales which could provide a suitable alternative. NYM does have a lot to offer but I suppose we can't keep going back every year.
Is there really so little support for the 100k now?

By David Streeter on Monday, March 20, 2000 - 05:10 pm:

More checkpoints in a smaller event area is more desireable for people less gifted in the fitness department, but better at navigation and route planning.
This format would suit me a lot better as an individual, and as part of a tandem team where distance travelled is not as great as the top teams
