In the event details it says that paper maps are not available. I ordered a paper map on the entry form. Does this mean I will arrive to find I have no map, will have to pay extra for a laminated map, or there will be paper maps?
This is no great problem provided I get a map of some sort.
We are not taking additional orders for paper maps, if you ordered one with your entry there will be one waiting for you at registation.
Graham, is the Summer 2002 a standard issue OS map or is it a special printed job that covers a funny sized area? It's just I think we only ordered one and will need another map.
Cheers, Chris.
Chris
Final details advise it is OS sheet 119
Standard Map
Doing my first PC and generally as a pair would people advise two maps (one each) or just the one ? I'v ordered one and am wondering if I need another ?
opinions from experienced PCers ?
thanks
dave
Not experienced having only done the Spring event, but would definitely recommend one a piece.
Also important is a map holder, may sound obvious but I had a map last time but no holder and it was a damn pain slowing down to read it.
Definitely one each, plus a map holder....
unless cost is a major consideration (ie you
want to make your own), get one of the plastic
bar-mounted ones advertised on the website.
Alternatively pick one up from Fearn's in
Matlock en-route - speak to Aidan
01629-582089... they're by far the best way to
carry yr map.
My first Polaris too.
Can anyone say what size area is typical for the event. I'm guessing at something like 20x20 miles. Would that be about right, or should I expect a bigger area?
a little bit bigger...checkpoints on about about 70% area of a full OS map. To put in perspecetive in 7 top riders will cover about 130km (probably a little more in this area)
The event area is usually the whole map as we try to use different areas on differnt day and scatter you out, there are more CP's than usual this event to keep you all busy.
If you don't want to buy a map holder you can make one yourself - no DIY skills needed.
Take a piece of signboard (or perspex if you can't get hold of signboard - just make sure you round off any sharp bits and put some ducktape over it to stop it smashing in the event of a crash). Cut a hole cot in the middle so it can sit over the stem, attached to the bars by zip-ties (you will need to drill a few small holes for these).
Attach map by a couple of strips of old inner tube tied into loops.
Easy!
