PC Team, when will the dates for the Winter/Autumn 2003 PC be confirmed? The web site still shows TBC.

I want to make sure that work/vacation commitments don't interfere with the joy and pain of the event.

By Paul P ( - 80.40.30.110) on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 12:52 pm:

According to the entry form ,it will be 11th-12th October in NW Pennines.

By duncan ( - 57.250.229.136) on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 04:11 pm:

Thanks Pual. I was taking my info from the PC home page, which still reads TBC. Pennines in October........

By Ian ( - 217.158.156.222) on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 - 09:55 pm:

'cept that the year on the forms is wrong...

What about location of Summer PC - surely not the Peak District again?

By GrahamL ( - 195.229.241.234) on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 - 01:56 pm:

TBC is the venue date is fixed yes NW Pennines confirmed.

By paul.k.allan ( - 81.131.162.236) on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 09:03 pm:

need some information/help for doing the autumn polaris, have already done 2 summer polaris, any infor would be much appreciated.p.k.a

By GrahamL ( - 80.6.68.88) on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 12:30 pm:

Paul
Check out the hints on the web site first and then come back with specific questions.
Your query is too broad but if you have done 2 summer events then Autumn/Spring events are the same except you have to carry equipment and food for 2 days and spend a night at a wilderness camp site.

By paul.k.allan ( - 81.131.2.223) on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 06:35 pm:

thanx graham guess what i want to know at the over night camp is there any toilets, water buffs,or to we have to carry our own water and a shovel!! i just want to know whats at the over night camp site?

By strugglingoutofbuttermereonsundaymorning ( - 195.93.32.11) on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 10:30 pm:

there were some big rocks to squat behind at autumn 2002 wilderness campsite. just watch where you walk is all i can say. not very constructive, but hey, some people even complained about washing bikes in the stream. 1 thing though, a van full of booze made its way to the campsite, which cant be a bad thing in my opinion.

By GrahamL ( - 80.6.68.88) on Thursday, July 24, 2003 - 12:48 pm:

Paul
all that information is there on the website but to answer your specific questions
Yes we provide toilets at O/N, long queues can be expected in the morning.
If there is no spring or stream we provide water, again expect queues (remember Salisbury)as the supply can be stretched.
Only complaints about bike washing is the inconsiderate teams that wash their bikes upstream of those drinking, we could set up zone but they would only be ignored, why wash a bike anyway it is only going to get dirty the following day.
What's a water buff? Clean answers please.
Alcohol is available for those who do not carry own supplies.

By strugglingoutofbuttermereonsundaymorningwithcleanbike ( - 195.93.32.11) on Thursday, July 24, 2003 - 07:09 pm:

allright..allright. enough about clean bikes. the less ignorant but blissfully unaware apologised in october about washing bikes. i think he means water butt. aren't they those metre square cubes that you can get? one thing that i may have mentioned elsewhere, but i will never do without them again, is clean and dry gloves+socks for sunday morning. whatever you do, just endeavour to have these two items ready for the off on day 2. hard enough doing your first wilderness camp, without starting day 2 with cold+wet extremities. IMHO for what its worth!!!!!!!!!

By JamesA ( - 211.13.144.171) on Thursday, July 24, 2003 - 11:35 pm:

"why wash a bike anyway it is only going to get dirty the following day."

Because if you don't get it properly cleaned and oiled you are likely to suffer from serious chainsuck on the second day? Just a thought - it has certainly happened to us on multi-day rides.

'Wilderness' is putting it a bit strong from my limited experience. 'Nice bit of countryside' might be more like it. Still very enjoyable, and I look forward to our next event...whenever that might be.

By paul.k.allan ( - 81.131.44.239) on Saturday, July 26, 2003 - 03:07 pm:

allriht people i got the name wrong water buff sounds more fun but it's water bowsers as in water tanks on wheels,so there lets here no more 'bout water buffs, thanx for the advise from various sources, i might see u all at askham t/q
tomorrow,if not see u in autumn.anybody else get
the clues from summer polaris as to where the autumn
polaris will be held??

By GrahamL ( - 80.4.61.129) on Saturday, July 26, 2003 - 09:46 pm:

no clues
NW England but not Lakes!
Pennines

By Tony F ( - 193.132.31.237) on Monday, July 28, 2003 - 03:17 pm:

No clues?

and then you tell us it is not the Lakes?

Sounds like a clue to me!

and then the word "Pennines"???

So does that mean they will be in the Pennines? which is still pretty broad considering NW England (but not the lakes) has a fair amount of open countryside!

Surely you can do better than that!

By GrahamL ( - 80.4.61.129) on Monday, July 28, 2003 - 06:37 pm:

Surely the words North and West are also clues but where does the North start?
North of M62?
North of A66?
North of A57?
North of A69
Knowing takes all of the fun out of it, it is better to guess.

By mark green ( - 194.200.250.13) on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 08:53 am:

so there were not toilets on the autumn 2002..

I must have been lucky on the other winter/autumn events, since there has always been porta loo's !!!

(Todmorton is around the pennines toooo)

By Tony F ( - 193.132.31.237) on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 01:09 pm:

Graham

North and West are extremely relative!

As far is I am concerned, at this exact moment North is anywhere beyond Welwyn Garden City Police Station and West is anything on the other side of John Lewis!!!

(For those who know the area, yes that does mean I'm sitting in the Council Offices)!

By GrahamL ( - 80.6.68.88) on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 05:02 pm:

Mark
I not understand you message there are toilets at overnight. Always have been always will be.

By mark Green ( - 194.200.250.13) on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 - 08:50 am:

Hi Graham,
I thought there was.!!! was looking at the comment earlier in this thread from

strugglingoutofbuttermereonsundaymorning

seemed to suggest there was no loo's !!

By paul.k.allan ( - 81.131.66.103) on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 - 06:30 pm:

knowng the location will not take the fun out of it! but it may take a tiny bit of the pain away.
naa forget that, nowt will take the pain away, all i'll say- does it hurt!!if it's were i think it is your in for a whole lotta pain

By GrahamL ( - 80.6.68.88) on Thursday, July 31, 2003 - 08:12 am:

Paul
But it will stop locals pre-riding the event area.
If you come from where I think you do, pet, then it will not be a long journey.
Pain is only temporary, well for 7 hours and 5 hours on a Polaris anyway

By Tony F ( - 193.132.31.237) on Friday, August 1, 2003 - 02:20 pm:

OK so lets take this logically

er... Paul where d'ya live???

By strugglingoutofbuttermereonsundaymorning ( - 195.93.32.11) on Saturday, August 2, 2003 - 01:29 pm:

i wasn't suggesting there were no toilets. i was informing you that i found human shit behind a feckin large boulder, whilst looking for somewhere to have a pee. being a dog owner and having a love of the countryside allows me a fascinating insight into the world off poo. in my informed opinion it was definitely from one of us polaris types. s'pose i should of just peed into stream...oops

By paul.k.allan ( - 213.122.220.242) on Saturday, August 2, 2003 - 02:32 pm:

hi Tony F

i'm from Newcastle originally but now live in god's back garden (the lake district)Kendal to be
precise.why does that make a diffrence??

By Tony F ( - 193.132.31.237) on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 - 12:31 pm:

Paul

Graham thinks you will be "local" to the Autumn event but it is not in the Lakes, so that narrows it down a little!

When you're stuck down here in the South every little bit of pre-information helps.

As for living in "God's back garden" all I can say is you lucky, lucky b*st*rd!!!

By paul.k.allan ( - 81.131.188.236) on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 - 09:34 pm:

hi Tony

yes i know i am it's great, i mean just yesterday(wednesday),
there i was finished at two o'clock right bike out
of i go 25 mile trek over the Garbon pass into kentmere back home, paradise!
right my theory is that it's got to be the pennines around Hexham, allendale area,if i'm right i've done 3 t/q's in/around that area,if i'm
right oh my god!! hard,hard!

By Tony F ( - 193.132.31.237) on Thursday, August 7, 2003 - 02:00 pm:

Alright, alright... no need to rub it in!

At least the sun is shining down here in Hertfordshire and i've got the soft top on the Land Rover. Think I'll just have to bunk off early myself and explore a few byways on the way home!

By GrahamL ( - 80.4.61.129) on Thursday, August 7, 2003 - 11:04 pm:

IT'S SUNNY IN GOD'S COUNTRY TOO.
Ride home you lazy B like I did, along the banks of the Tees.
Training for IOM E2E!
Might even do a trail quest soon.
Paul

By GrahamL ( - 81.105.85.236) on Saturday, August 16, 2003 - 08:39 am:

I used to think that Paul until a really bad back forced me off my bike until I had to have a 2 level spinal fusion op, then during F&M I started to play golf with my 9 year old son and now I am bitten with the golf bug which got worse when I was in Dubai.
But a ride in North Yorkshire (God's Country)name the date.

By paul.k.allan ( - 81.131.139.176) on Saturday, August 16, 2003 - 11:28 am:

By GrahamL ( - 81.105.85.236) on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 10:26 am:

By Jon B ( - 217.155.201.171) on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 07:06 pm:

Dr Johnson just said "Sod this bloody waste of time"
