Due to acess problems with the North Yorks Moors we have decided to cancel the NAVITAC for this year. Any one who has entered will get a full refund.
Shame.
it would been my highlight of the year to do it solo. im very disappointed but can see the problem so will look forward to next year!
it's probably for the best anyway. all those gung ho cyclists trampling over our wildlife heritage whilst on the nest.....so to speak. would the bird people of minded if we'd told them we'd all wear our waterproof trousers? just a pointless point!
Surely it would have been prudent to get all the facts about wildlife, habitat and access sorted before advertising the event? Is it unusual that's birds nest in the spring ? Is Global warming to blame ? Or could it just be poor planning ?
I won't have any criticism of the Polaris organisers on this website! (what missing threads? where?).
........anyone want to buy a set of bike lights?
yes- what are they? need something light (not heavy...) and bright and longlasting. email is [email protected] cheers, nic
Don't sell them, get out and ride at night it's a great laff.
IN LIEU OF NAVITAC the Scottish Collective may organise an informal scaled down version, on the 'SAME' weekend. Rog/Graham, let us know if you don't want us to deal with this on the Forum, but it should generally maintain interest in the idea.
A Navitac Rescue Plan. Sounds good. Let the thread run....
Dear All
Well thats blown the training schedule out of the water and we had all the plans laid down - big tent, food strategy, lighting strategy and on behalf of the team members of 4WD we are mightily disappointed! We understand why though...but must agree with Rob W's message above. Surely after 12 years of organising these events, you must know where and where not they can be run and where likely problems likely are? Save yourself some precious advertising and admin. costs next time round.
The Summer Event will be held in the North York Moors, entry form are on the web or will be available via mail in about 2 weeks

Still, it was a good idea while it lasted.
Hopefully we might be able to look forward to something next year?

The whole affair was most unfortunate, and from the missing threads that may or may not have appeared on this site, I seem to recall that the issue was that local land access people thought it would be ok, but their bosses disagreed. But I have no evidence to prove this.

Scotland? Aren't the hills bigger and the midges badder? But even that sounds better than my B plan - my local orienteering club are hosting the British Champs that weekend and it's rumoured that they've pencilled me down for latrine emptying duties...
Now, Scotland looks good! And more accessible than IOM.

The NAVITAC will run at some point in the future - so keep those lights! We just need to find an area that is not going to be affected by SSSI with rare birds nesting on them. The warnings from English Nature were probably them flexing their new found muscles or using the legislation to protect commercial bird rearing (Grouse) but in the interest of keeping the North Yorks moors open to other users we decided to can the event. We tried to move the event to another area but given our usual 6-12 month rule of discussion with landowners it was decided it would be more prudent to cancel the event than try to continue
The concept and format of the event is great and we will get it organised for the future

Just a suggestion, but could this be organised late summer somewhere (August or Sept) or is that too early?
Looking forward to wherever its restaged
