Will Polaris be selling "techy" NW Pennine Event T-shirts similar to those sold for the Isle of Man event ?

I certainly hope this is the case, it makes a lot of sense as they are ideal for MTB'ing.

Yes, we will be doing a "techy" event T shirt, colour this year will be pale olive, ideal for camaflage when riding on footpaths.
No doubt some wag will come up with a "tacky" comment

Tacky?

Why?

Will the t-shirts be sticky as well as techie?

or is that Tetchy?

Blimely... sticky irritated t-shirts, what ever next!

ah, I now unnestand but I meant when you are out on your own.
Just realised that we need a TV at ON camp to watch Rugby world cup on the start line.

what about the ENGLAND V TURKEY game?
Failing that gonna a need a pub near the overnight
campsite,i put my faith in you Graham, you star!

By GrahamL ( - 81.105.85.207) on Friday, October 3, 2003 - 08:15 am:

Not the slightest bit interested in the Fngland v Turkey but is this a reason why our numbers are down, surely not. Those that are not coming this time are missing a great opportunity to ride in a brand new Polaris area which fabulous MTB terrain, shame.
Now pub near O/N that will have to be the L**N in *********.

Footpaths out of bounds!that's the little red lines where ramblers ramble & moan about how everybody else is ruining the countryside!!!
god blessing eh?
Rugby, that's that game played by men with odd shaped BALLS??

Just a note to put forward a motion "that can we consider any teams known to have been prowling around Alston this w/e should be considered cheats and have 10 points deducted on the start line?" See you all next w/e. Team 277

It's interesting to note people bragging about riding in the area,on the Singletrack site.Any comment from the organisers?

By GrahamL ( - 80.6.68.85) on Monday, October 6, 2003 - 09:59 am:

Nothing whatsoever, good luck to them it is a great area but they have no idea where the CP's are do they, even I don't know that.

By Tony F ( - 193.132.31.237) on Monday, October 6, 2003 - 01:24 pm:

I never could work out the whole secrecy bit anyway, nobody could possibly learn a whole Polaris "course" to the extent it would give them any advantage. Especially as Graham says, they won't know where the CP's are.

OK so navigation my be improved if you are more familiar with an area but this could be the case anyway. I kicked myself for missing last Autumns PC in the Lakes as I have been walking, climbing and cycling there on a regular basis for the last 29 years, in fact I can't remember the last time I bothered getting a map out on a walk/cycle. I would have had the advantage of prior knowledge whilst always having lived over 250 miles away.

Of course this level of knowledge wasn't gained in the few months leading up to an event, so perhaps any advantage would be slight other than the fact that those able to regularly practice in the area are most probably reasonably local (if not "locals") so have the required familiarity anyway.

The only other advantage I can see is they get fitness training on the "right" sort of terrain. Of course this is available to anyone who lives in or near a mountainous region. Unfortunately I don't which is why I went out on a three and half hour ride on Saturday looking for long hills to practice on! Not much luck in Hertfordshire!!!

So you see us Soft Shandy Drinking Southerners have got it all against us!
