However, I wonder if the sensible amount of portaloos at the overnight camp (compared with the Fiday camping - only 5 for the whole two fields of campers !)was forward thinking ?

I regularly drink from mountain streams -without any side effects- but I wouldnt have chosen to drink from that river if there was another option.

Q3. Belt and braces approach - filtered water from the stream with a Katadyn Mini filter (see: {http://tinyurl.com/rwbl)followed by iodine drops and neutralising tabs. Drank without boiling - no adverse effects.

My staple diet is phall and vindaloo so that tends to mean nothing on earth affects my insides. Except korma that is.....eurgh!

2. Londoner and of Welsh/Italian descent (South Wales but Northern Italy)!
3. Boots micropur tablets but did drink some untreated water because I couldn't be bothered to wait for the tablets to take affect, so must be my cast iron guts. I will confess to being a little "loose" in the bowels on Monday (but didn't feel ill with it) but I always get that after drinking lots of carbo drink (5-6 litres of maxim over the weekend).

15 responses (including partners)
12 with no shits (73%) 3 with (27%)
7 northerners (48%) 4 Southerners (26%) 4 others (26%)
1 boiled (7%) 9 used tablets (60%) 4 did both (26%) and 1 filtered and used tablets(7%)
Of those that got the shits 2 were northerners and 1 "other" (north midlands)
Of those that didn't 5 were northerners, four were southerners and three were "other".
Of the 3 with shits, all used puritabs and 1 boiled as well.
Of those who escaped 1 boiled, 10 used puritabs, and 1 of those also filtered.
So to conclude, so far it doesn't seem to matter what preventative measures you used or what part of the Country you hail from! but the "soft" southerners don't seem to be so soft after all. Perhaps after a larger sample the results may change....watch this space!
And who guessed that I'm sitting here at work, waiting for a Council meeting to start at 7.30 and bored out of my skull!

I could have provided you with a larger sample on Monday - could have used my waste products as hydraulic fluid for me leaking Hope Mini. So, yes I had the afforementioned problem, I (and all known relatives) from north of Kendal, but then we did drink straight from the river, untreated in any way. Somebody will now jump to the conclusion that northeners are thick! I came on here hoping to join in a "wasn't it a great event type vibe". I think of the aftermath on Monday as free colonic irrigation!
Well done John and team, a great event with a pretty wilderness feel.

Well done for spotting the "larger sample" pun! it was originally unintentional and I only spotted it when previewing the post. Couldn't resist leaving it in though!
Did anyone else produce a "large sample" on Monday morning???
PS: Pathfinder General please be assured your taxes are safe, I am currently on my lunchbreak and yesterday was taking a break from work to eat a "delicious" microwaved ready meal prior to three hours of sitting listening to local politicians bickering at each other. Isn't democracy wonderful!!!
