20/21 March are the dates
ta, confusion reigned briefly, all well in the world now, nearly
What have you got planned for spring polaris in the way of water supply, will it better the alston event? Or should i get a good supply of bog paper in ready!!
Water will be available from an upland stream in an uninhabited valley apart from sheep.
May taste lovely, but it's in Yorkshire - they'll charge.
I see the maps for this event will be already marked out with check points and out-of-bounds areas.

Good news on the pre-marked maps, it will make the whole event build up a more relaxed affair. Good on you for trying something new. This change will improve the event. If only the web site could have a makeover.
Graham, don't listern to the Old GIT the pre-marked maps are what we asked for and we got them, for me it makes my pre-ride prep a lot more relaxed and fun to wander around chit chatting etc,I'm really looking forward to the event, keep up the good work see ya there.
I agree, the pre-markedmap is definately progress>
PMM's what a godsend. Thank you Graham and all.
Im also a big fan of the PMM, its the way to go. Marking maps cant be fun for anyone. But in the past you have also given the checkpoints out on the Wednesday before the event to allow people to mark up at home. This also allowed GPSs to be uploaded. Will the GPS data or OS grid references be available on the web before the spring event? If not will the checkpoint grid references be issued at the event?
Dan
I think it's great that we're having pre marked maps, it will be more of a level playing field and loads less faff on Friday night, thankyou.

What's the point of that?
Part of the event is marking the maps out yourself and getting it right.
And the website is a waste of time- never updates.

The point is progress.
There has been quite a prolific thread going over recent year's requesting this and now that we have announced that we will be using pre-marked maps there has been nothing but whinging. But if you don't buy a map then you will have to copy the information off the wall.
Advantage of PMM's is that we can now use many more CP's on the competition which will create more route choice and allow all teams to make more hits.
Thanks for your positive comments re the web site, though.
I presume that we will not be seeing you at this event then.

You need a free web person, who loves the event so much they are happy to update the site. I have tons of ideas, which might help, perhaps I should start another thread.....
Also thanks for the MBI article, tactics for a win don't seem to have changed much.

Having (unfortunately) spent most of the Saturday of the autumn Polaris in the school hall with my partner and Graham after a bad fall (it later transpired i'd broken a rib) I can tell you how hard Graham works for this and how little they all make from it. Sure these people don't just do it for the love of it but they deserve a bit more praise and a bit less whining.
I'd like to see any of the whingers try and organise an event half this size, half as well. I'll be there in 2+bit weeks and loving it - especially after such a short 5th Polaris (about 2 hours!)... and we'll see if/how that training for the London Marathon is paying dividends!

In answer to your questions it is all negative.
No we will not be putting information on the web prior to the event and no, NGR's will not be issued at the event.
The issuing of PMM's makes it a level playing field for all teams ie those without intenet or GPS's.
(sits back and waits for a flurry of complaints)
